This is either horrible coaching or JJ just cannot be an effective QB in the SEC. Unfortunately, Lee looked much better than JJ, yet still throws pick 6's. I am tired of hearing how well JL is practicing because I am deathly afraid that when he enters a game, he becomes completely unglued and reverts back to his old form. If Les and Gary cannot get the QB situation fixed quickly, they will both be looking for new jobs at the end of the year because this season could get away from them early in the year with games against UNC,MSU and WVU.Ben Guevaranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-38017034754576236052010-03-29T19:02:43.341-05:002010-03-29T19:02:43.341-05:00Jefferson played as bad as I have ever seen him pl...Jefferson played as bad as I have ever seen him play. The fact that he has (seemingly) not progressed after two years in the system is extremely disappointing. I think the coaching staff should cut their losses and work on coaching up Lee. I couldn't believe he threw another pick six either, but the fact that he came back and lead (handed off to Ford) a touchdown drive afterward is encouraging. I would have been in the fetal position crying on the sidelines. I have had my fill of the "dual-threat" quarterback and am ready for the coaching staff to bring in and coach up a top notch "pro-style" guy. "Dual-threat" = "Guy who isn't really a quarterback but was the best athlete on his high-school team which didn't have a guy who could play quarterback."Rusty Shacklefordnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-1981682020701848552010-03-20T10:42:10.233-05:002010-03-20T10:42:10.233-05:00look forward to seeing your writing on Southern Pi...look forward to seeing your writing on Southern Pigskin!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-28109803942554289722010-02-22T22:25:26.772-06:002010-02-22T22:25:26.772-06:00Nothing on basketball yet, and I admit I've be...Nothing on basketball yet, and I admit I've been putting it off. Trent Johnson had an opportunity to make the team competitive for 2009-2010 with some "quick fix" solutions via JUCO players, etc. That doesn't fit his long term plan for the program though. He wants to build the program with 4-year players....which means that we all knew this year would be rough. Building the program the way Johnson wants to will, in theory, prevent the ups and downs that we saw under John Brady.

But it's REAL bad this year, and it shouldn't be. I agree that it is inexcusable. He should be able to coach a few conference wins out of this group. He's currently getting a pass because of the success he had last year, but he still deserves some heat because he has lost this team. The team was more competitive early in the season but once they realized they weren't going to the post-season, they regressed. Lately (last two weeks), it seems that the effort has picked up some.

Next year will be very big for Johnson. They'll have to be competitive to show they're on the right track. He's bringing in good recruits but certainly no Brandon Bass / Big Baby / Tasmin / Stromile type of difference makers.Saturday Night Slanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288938233480248539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-32971796837302817832010-02-22T09:20:16.392-06:002010-02-22T09:20:16.392-06:00No news on basketball? He looks like a guy that may earn some SEC offers. I haven't heard much in terms of Oliver's recruitment yet. I think LSU is shooting for the big-timers to start, nationally ranked QBs. My only concern is that they have over a year to change their minds. I am curious to know what you think or what you are hearing about Zach Oliver. I know his family, I was childhood friends with his older brother (who was also a Catholic High quarterback but obviously less talented... but he followed Major Applewhite - big shoes to fill) although I have been out of touch with them for a while. It is my understanding that his dad played tight end for LSU in the 70s. Anyway, I would assume that if LSU wants him, they will get him. I seem to remember a game (may not have been this decade) where LSU won the toss but said, "We want to kick" when they meant to defer. But by actually choosing to kick the ball they excercised their choice as winner of the coin flip. So in that game, LSU kicked off to start the game AND after half-time.

Did that happen or am I just crazy? If someone argued that Flynn and Mauck should be the two on this team, I wouldn't argue a whole lot. Davey is not without merit though. He holds the single season record for passing yards in a season and led a record setting offense. He was an incredible team leader, and his efforts helped LSU finally reach a BCS bowl game and become a Top-10 program. I submit that without Rohan Davey's performance in 2001, Jamarcus Russell would not have considered attending LSU.

As for Hester, I say that YES he's one of the two best we've had this decade.

How do you know when I went to college?Saturday Night Slanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288938233480248539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-16676416059007858382009-12-14T22:50:10.029-06:002009-12-14T22:50:10.029-06:00Also, was Jacob Hester really the best running bac...Also, was Jacob Hester really the best running back we've had this decade? However, considering the magnitude of the homerism, I feel it necessary to speak up. Putting Rohan Davey ahead of Jamarcus Russell is asinine and absurd. Had Jamarcus been hyped for it in the preseason, he would have been a finalist for the 2006 Heisman trophy, and may have even won it. Just because Rohan was the quarterback when you were in college doesn’t make him the best quarterback of the decade. Don’t get me wrong, I hated Josh Booty too, and I was there in person to watch Rohan Davey clean up in the second half of the Peach Bowl and cap the season that launched LSU football to the excellence we’ve seen this decade. But … Jamarcus Russell was the best college quarterback LSU has had in decades. Now, Jamarcus Russell is (thus far) a terrible terrible terrible NFL quarterback, but that has nothing to do with his LSU career. I wonder if your list would be the same if the Raiders (with Jamarcus at the helm) were 13-0 this season and coming off of a Superbowl win.Rusty Shacklefordnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-29227133921999980802009-12-03T23:16:21.473-06:002009-12-03T23:16:21.473-06:00I gather the player involved with McCarthy is actu...I gather the player involved with McCarthy is actually not a WR, but rather a DT from California.

Nothing official...of courseSaturday Night Slanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288938233480248539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-62468048604051664472009-12-01T22:13:24.750-06:002009-12-01T22:13:24.750-06:00If I am going to be dependant on this site as a le...If I am going to be dependant on this site as a legitimate source for LSU news, I can't have you off playing "Old Man and the Sea" when there are recruiting violations, coaching turnovers, and all sorts of other happenings. He did NOT deserve the criticism he recieved when he was winning 11 games a year, winning BCS bowls, and finishing in the Top 5. That was unfair, and he deserved better. But now, things are different.

Like I said above, we need to get behind this group as much as we can because LSU can still finish with a VERY nice 10-3 season.

By the way, this line was classic:

"A mentally challenged flock of visually impaired monkeys calling x’s and o’s by flinging their own excrement at the chalkboard couldn’t have done much worse"Saturday Night Slanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288938233480248539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-36502087551801320482009-11-24T17:34:26.995-06:002009-11-24T17:34:26.995-06:00I cannot excuse or believe the utterly turrible tu...I cannot excuse or believe the utterly turrible turrible set of events put in to motion (or allowed to happen) by Les Miles at the end of the Ole Miss game. It was inexplicable, inexcusable, and no amount of apologizing from Les Miles can ever make it even close to being acceptable. When you are one of the highest paid coaches in the game, that kind of mismanagement can never ever happen. A mentally challenged flock of visually impaired monkeys calling x’s and o’s by flinging their own excrement at the chalkboard couldn’t have done much worse.
Now, that having been said, I find myself in the position of needing to defend Les Miles. LSU fans are notorious over-reactors to everything and this is no different. We sit in the midst of one of the greatest runs in the history of LSU football and all I can hear is moaning and complaining at the prospects of another 8 win (at worst) season. Now I understand that much like the baseball program under Smoke Laval, it is the “direction of the program” that has everyone very concerned. And I think that concern is justified, but to say that Les Miles is some sort of buffoon who doesn’t know his playbook from his … ahem … is more than a little ridiculous.
Les Miles has gone 11-2; 11-2; 12-2; 8-5; 8-3 with 2 remaining. Nick Saban went 8-4; 10-3; 8-5; 13-1; 9-3 and went on to not become the coach of the Miami Dolphins and then went on to not become the coach of Alabama. Now I am not that good with math (I am actually but the expression requires me to poormouth) but I’d say that Miles is actually having a better run than did Saban. In fact, even if LSU loses to Arkansas and their bowl opponent, Miles will still have a better winning percentage than Saban through 5 seasons (plus Les Miles is 4-0 in bowl games, Saban was 3-2 and 1-2 in his last 3) .
Someone will be crucified at the end of the season and all signs point to that being Gary Crowton and that is fine. However, even if Miles loses the last two games of the season 50-0, he will not be fired. So, let’s do like we hope the team is doing and put it behind us. Les Miles may not be the answer to our prayers; he may not be a savior, or Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, or the Easter Bunny. He’s a football coach that’s all … just a football coach. But he’s OUR coach.
Sorry my rant ran so long, but I felt compelled to say something. Have a great day.Rusty Shacklefordnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5219577116056574768.post-35276589490036531382009-11-19T08:54:29.965-06:002009-11-19T08:54:29.965-06:00Dude...that wasn't me.
